- TITLE OF COURSE: - BT - Electronic Calculator Applications
- COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Three credit hours of lecture. This course is designed to teach the students to use the touch method of operating the electronic calculator and to use common calculator features. The course emphasizes solving business problems using the calculator. The instructor introduces concepts and how to use the calculator effectively for each solution; the students do daily exercises, speed & technique drills, practice tests, and unit tests. For each unit of
credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and
two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
- DIVISION/DEPT/PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT:The mission of the Business Administrative Technology program is consistent with the mission of Seward County Community College. The program will provide students with quality learning opportunities and experiences to meet the diverse, changing needs for the development of better futures.

- COURSE OUTCOMES/COMPETENCIES:Upon acceptable completion of the course competencies and an average of 85 percent or higher on daily work evaluation, five practice tests, and five unit (post) tests, the student will be able to:
- Develop ability to operate the ten-key keyboard using the touch method by:
- Identifying control keys and understanding use
- Entering numbers using correct machine and hand positions
- Learning to make corrections
- Proofreading for accuracy
- Develop ability to key with speed and accuracy.
- Demonstrate problem-solving ability in business applications
- TOPICAL COURSE OUTLINE:
- Demonstrate proficiency of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and percentages on the calculator using the touch system
- Use constant feature of calculator
- Use accumulation feature of calculator
- Calculate pay and complete payroll documents
- Calculate purchase orders
- Prepare and audit invoices
- Calculate cash and trade discounts
- Calculate and/or verify extensions
- Calculate pricing including markup, markdown, selling price, cost
- Figure discounts
- Calculate installment buying
- Prorate
- Analyze statements
- Figure finance charges
- Allocate expenses
- Calculate mortgages, notes
- Calculate true annual interest rate
- Convert common units of measurement within and/or across measurement systems (metric, English)
